A Memory Book Can Help a Person With Memory Loss or Dementia

& Their Caregivers

One of the most important things you can do to support your loved one with dementia (as well as the rest of your family) is to create a memory book. A memory book provides a way for everyone to stay organized and up-to-date on the situation. For the person with dementia in particular, it provides a place to look for answers and get information that they may have trouble recalling. While it helps everyone stay on the same page, this support is also a way to strengthen the capacities of the person with dementia. They no longer have to rely on others for information—they can find the information themselves. This can help to increase self-esteem and their sense of control in the situation.

This excerpt comes from my book, A Roadmap For Dementia. This workbook provides tools for families coping with dementia.

This workbook simplifies and clarifies how best to help and care for your loved ones with dementia

A Roadmap for Dementia’ provides tools to:

  • Create a memory book to support your loved one and assist caregivers

  •  Develop a strategy to understand behaviors seen in dementia

  •  Learn to cope with agitation and psychosis

  •  Communicate more effectively with your loved ones with dementia

Here is a link to another excerpt and worksheet from my book, focused on the information you can provide caregivers so that they work more effectively with a person with dementia or cognitive impairment.

Need a Little More Help?

A colleague in my practice and I have also written a basic book on dementia, focused on helping families understand dementia, if it is present, and its care.

IN 'DOES MY MOM HAVE DEMENTIA?' WE PROVIDE THIS ROADMAP FOR YOU!

You will explore:

  • What is dementia?

  • How does it compare to normal aging?

  • What are the warning signs and what else could it be?

  • How do I talk to the doctor about it?

  • What doctors will you see and what procedures may occur?

  • What is the dementia course and what can be expected?

  • How can I and my loved one cope with the diagnosis?

  • How do I prevent caregiver burnout?

This is not an academic book. We wrote this book in language that is clear and helpful. Anyone with an aging loved one in their lives can benefit from 'Does My Mom Have Dementia?'
