For some cases, we may ask the clinician to implement short manualized care programs based on neuropsychological assessments that we have conducted, which may involve support for memory difficulties or other care.

This position is not expected to provide crisis care or support for individuals with significant psychosis.

Opportunities for Externs and Post-docs

  • Insight Neuropsychology is an external practicum/postdoc site that specializes in neuropsychological assessment and is staffed by neuropsychologists and a school psychologist. It was founded by Dr. Erik Lande, who has been in practice since 2003. He has worked in rehabilitation hospitals and been adjunct faculty at UCSB, where he taught neuropsychology and was Director of the Psychology Assessment Center. He has also been adjunct faculty at Cal Lutheran University.

Our primary office is located in Camarillo. In addition to office visits, the practice also conducts home visits and sees patients in hospitals, assisted living facilities, and other places as needed.

  • Students will begin by learning our basic test battery and will initially act as psychometricians, conducting testing and scoring for clinical cases. They will also attend feedback sessions and write practice reports on cases. As they gain experience, students will have the opportunity to conduct their own low-cost community assessments.

At least one-hour of scheduled one-on-one supervision will occur weekly and additional consultation and supervision is provided as needed. Weekly group supervision, including didactics on neuropsychology are also a component of this training.

The types of cases seen at Insight Neuropsychology include dementia, brain injuries, illnesses, strokes, psychosis, and mental health conditions, with a majority of cases being adult patients, but some children and adolescents with learning disabilities and ADHD are also seen. In addition to clinical cases, the practice also provides forensic services, particularly through contracts with Adult Protective Services and the Public Guardian's office. We also see personal injury and criminal cases at times.

A particular strength of our training experience is that we offer students the ability to engage in multidisciplinary practice and learn about the assessment of decision-making capacity. We consult regularly with Adult Protective Services, and students are expected to attend two multidisciplinary meetings per month.

These meetings are for the APS Rapid Response Expert Team, which is composed of APS social workers, law enforcement, district attorneys, the Public Guardian's office, the Regional Center, County Behavioral Health, and other community organizations as needed. These meetings assign cases to us for capacity assessment, and we will then accompany social workers to assess clients where they live, be it their home or other locations, such as hospitals, or even sitting out in a park.

  • To apply, please submit a cover letter outlining your interest and experience, as well as a CV. Interviews will be scheduled for qualified candidates. If you have any further questions, please reach out and we will be happy to provide additional information or connect you with current post-docs or practicum students to discuss their experiences.

The deadline for receiving applications is February 15th, and offers to students will be made by April 15th, although offers may be made earlier. Please email materials to DrLande@insightneuropsychology.com.
